Two years ago, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to make a feature adaptation of the app game FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S, which takes place in
Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a darker version of Chuck-E-Cheese, where an animatronic animal band performs kiddy songs by day, and goes on murderous rampages by night. The goal of the game is survive a night locked inside, knowing that a furry death machine might jump out of the dark at any moment.
Even though they had a director attached (the POLTERGEIST remake's Gil Kenan), the studio never did get the project off the ground. With FREDDY'S seeming to flounder at WB, other companies – like Lion's Gate and Screen Gems – were hoping to snatch up the rights for themselves.
Judging by a tweet sent out by the game's creator Scott Cawthon a couple days ago, the first tweet he ever made (and so far his only one), FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S may have found a new home at Blumhouse Productions. At least, that's what a picture of a director's chair with "Freddy" on it sitting in front of the Blumhouse Productions logo would seem to indicate.
We'll provide updates as more information becomes available, but hopefully this means that we've moved several steps closer to getting a movie about rampaging, homicidal animatronic animals.
