Blumhouse, Hounds of Love director team for The Bedroom Window remake

After making his feature directorial debut with the excellent Australian thriller HOUNDS OF LOVE, Ben Young made the alien invasion film EXTINCTION for Netflix. I haven't watched that one, but it didn't seem to go over as well with viewers. Now Young is returning to thriller territory, as he has been hired to write and direct THE BEDROOM WINDOW for Blumhouse and Studiocanal.

THE BEDROOM WINDOW is a remake of a 1987 film written and directed by Curtis Hanson that followed

a man who beds his boss’ wife. During the tryst, she observes from his bedroom window a violent attack on a young woman. He goes to the police on his lover’s behalf to report a crime he didn’t actually witness. Soon he is a suspect and potential target for the attacker.

Hanson's THE BEDROOM WINDOW was an adaptation of the 1971 novel The Witnesses, written by Anne Holden. So the film Young, Blumhouse, and Studiocanal are working on could be considered a new adaptation of Holden's novel rather than a remake of Hanson's film, but they are sticking with Hanson's title.

The 1987 film starred Steve Guttenberg, Elizabeth McGovern, and Isabelle Huppert.

I haven't read the Holden novel or watched the Hanson movie, so I'm in the dark on this one. I do hope Young will be able to make something really good out of the story.

There are some stray copies of the novel available on Amazon. The 1987 version of THE BEDROOM WINDOW can be viewed on Amazon Prime, or purchased on Blu-ray.
