Bloodshot’s David Wilson to helm sci-fi thriller Influx for Sony Pictures

BLOODSHOT never really stood a chance; mere days after its release in March, the growing COVID-19 pandemic forced Sony Pictures announce that the film would be shifting to a Digital release as theaters across the globe closed. Based on the bestselling comic book, BLOODSHOT starred Vin Diesel as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he becomes an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. The film was the feature directorial debut of David S.F. Wilson, and it seems that he'll be continuing his relationship with Sony Pictures.

Deadline reports that Sony Pictures has tapped David S.F. Wilson to helm INFLUX, based on the sci-fi thriller novel by Daniel Suarez. The story follows Jon Grady, a particle physicist who is "perfecting a world-changing invention when his lab is infiltrated by terrorists. He’s held by a clandestine U.S. government department and when he refuses an offer to work with them, prison and torture at the hands of an artificial intelligence inquisitor awaits. He must escape and thwart what the government is doing." Zak Olkewicz, one of the writers behind the upcoming FEAR STREET movie, will pen the script. In a post on Twitter, Wilson said that getting to helm INFLUX is a "dream come true" and that he's wanted to adapt the book since the moment he first read it.

A synopsis of "Influx" via Amazon:

Physicist Jon Grady and his team have discovered a device that can reflect gravity—a triumph that will revolutionize the field of physics and change the future. But instead of acclaim, Grady’s lab is locked down by a covert organization known as the Bureau of Technology Control. The bureau’s mission: suppress the truth of sudden technological progress and prevent the social upheaval it would trigger. Because the future is already here. And it’s rewards are only for a select few. When Grady refuses to join the BTC, he’s thrown into a nightmarish high-tech prison housing other doomed rebel intellects. Now, as the only hope to usher humanity out of its artificial dark age, Grady and his fellow prisoners must try to expose the secrets of an unimaginable enemy—one that wields a technological advantage half a century in the making.
