BLOOD SISTERS: VAMPIRE ACADEMY, the Mark Waters-directed flick based on Richelle Mead’s best-selling “Vampire Academy” series, has been picked up by The Weinstein Company in a deal worth around $30 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The brothers snatched up the flick, which recently commenced casting, at the Berlin International Film Festival and will release it in North America on FEBRUARY 14, 2014.
Starring Zooey Deutch, Lucy Fry and Danila Kozlovsky, BLOOD SISTERS has the following synopsis:
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
The film has sold to plenty of international territories as well, including eOne in the UK, Universum in Germany, Metropolitan in France, West in CIS, Hoyts in Australia and New Zealand, eOne in Canada and Intercontinental in Hong Kong.
