Just when you thought it was safe to return to the water, 47 METERS DOWN director Johannes Roberts is back for another dive into his deadly shark franchise with 47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED. As a follow-up to Roberts' 2017 deep sea drama, which found two sisters vacationing in Mexico and then trapped in a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean, Uncaged will take the series to an even more claustrophobic locale, as four divers explore an ancient underwater grave site and run afowl of the shark that guards the murky ruins.
Here's the official synopsis for 47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED:
The film follows the story of four teen girls diving in a ruined underwater city, who quickly find themselves in a watery hell as their fun outing turns into heart-stopping fear when they learn they are not alone in the submerged caves. As they swim deeper into the claustrophobic labyrinth of caves they enter the territory of the deadliest shark species in the ocean.
Set to star in Roberts' aquatic nightmare scenario sequel are John Corbett (MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING), Nia Long (THE BEST MAN), Sophie Nelisse (THE BOOK THIEF), Corinne Foxx (BEAT SHAZAM), daughter of action superstar Sylvester Stallone and Jennifer Flavin, Sistine Rose Stallone, Brianne Tju (SCREAM: THE TV SERIES), Davi Santos (TELL ME A STORY), Khylin Rhambo (TEEN WOLD, ENDER'S GAME), Brec Bassinger (THE GOLDBERGS).
At the time of its June 2017 release, 47 METERS DOWN netted $44.3 million at the worldwide box office. When looking at reviews for the original film, both critics and fans of shark carnage cinema were left feeling divided as to the film's quality. Purely as a point of reference, 47 METERS DOWN currently holds a middling 53% Fresh rating on the reviewer aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, with an Audience Score of just 36% having enjoyed the film.
Be that as it may, a second time in the water just might be the charm for Roberts' shark-infested horror flick, which is set to swim into theaters nationwide on August 16th, 2019.
