Blast from the Past: Alicia Silverstone is willing to do a sequel with Brendan Fraser

So far, in 2023, both Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone have made appearances during two big television events. Silverstone reprised her role as Cher in an ad during the Super Bowl, and Brendan Fraser scored a Best Actor win at the Academy Awards. The duo had also won hearts over in 1999 in the romantic comedy, Blast from the Past. The movie featured a happy ending of course. However, if there were to be a sequel, Variety reports that Silverstone is down to be in it so she could work with Fraser again.

Alicia Silverstone recently made a guest appearance at a reunion panel with the Clueless cast at ’90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut. During the Q&A session, a fan asked Silverstone if she’d be interested in a sequel to Blast from the Past, and she replied, “With Brendan? I would do anything with Brendan. It was so much fun! I just saw Brendan after he won his Oscar and he’s so cute. He talked in his speech about how we all go through this really hard time and you have to grow and it’s part of life that you struggle and then look what happened to him! So yes, I’m happy to do that.”

Even though Fraser had been a favorite to win many awards for his dramatic turn in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, the Academy Award win was a humbling victory for Fraser. As he gave a tearful speech, he would reflect, “I started in this business 30 years ago, things didn’t come easy to me, but there was a facility that I didn’t appreciate at the time until it stopped. I just want to say thank you for this acknowledgment. It couldn’t be done without my cast. It’s been like I’ve been on a diving expedition and the air on the line to the surface is being watched over by some people in my life, like my sons.”

In Blast from the Past, Fraser played Adam, a man who was born and raised in a fallout shelter when his paranoid father, played by Christopher Walken, had him and his pregnant wife, played by Sissy Spacek, retreat to the bunker. Adam would be forced to visit the surface and face a world that is completely foreign to him. Adam would eventually meet and fall in love with Silverstone’s character, Eve. It’s actually a cute little rom-com that’s worth checking out, although a sequel might be a little unlikely at this point.
