Blake Lively is heading to Netflix for her next gig in the Shawn Levy-produced DARK DAYS AT THE MAGNA CARTA.
The film is a post-apocalyptic thriller and while most plot details are being kept under wraps, the broad description teases the movie as "a character-driven thriller set against a catastrophic event and centers on a woman going to extreme lengths to survive and save her family” and, additionally, a “world-altering event is a key foil and themes of isolation and strength of family emerge.”
The film is written by newcomer Michael Paisley, who came up with the story as the current global pandemic ultimately shaped and impacted its narrative. There are other ambitious prospects for the project as well with this being looked at as the first film of a trilogy which means this could be a potential franchise for Lively. This could likely make up for THE RHYTHM SECTION, which was being looked at as a franchise for the actress but the dismal box office numbers put that to rest very quickly.
Levy will produce the film under his 21 Laps banner alongside Dan Cohen while Lively will executive produce under her B for Effort banner with Kate Vorhoff. Lively and Levy are already linked through her husband Ryan Reynolds. Levy directed Reynolds in the upcoming video game inspired feature FREE GUY and is working on other projects with the actor as well. Despite the box office failure of THE RHYTHM SECTION, Lively has proven to be a reliable box office player in such successful films as A SIMPLE FAVOR, THE SHALLOWS & THE AGE OF ADALINE.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Blake Lively has proven to be more than a pretty face in recent years and I like how she seems picky about what projects she takes on. Are YOU interested in DARK DAYS AT THE MAGNA CARTA?
