Blade: Wesley Snipes open to cameo in MCU reboot

Blade is probably one of the most definitive roles of Wesley Snipes' career but Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali will be taking up the mantle of the character when he eventually appears in the MCU. Despite someone else stepping into his Daywalker shoes, Snipes revealed in a recent interview that he would be open to cameo in the reboot under the right circumstances.

Snipes is making the promotional rounds for Coming 2 America and he was asked by "Entertainment Tonight" about the possibility of appearing in the new Blade movie in a cameo capacity or as a new character entirely and here's what the actor had to say:

"You never know. Under the right circumstances, I'm open to play with everybody. I know that people associate me with that role. The Daywalker community out there is a part of the Daywalker clique and our global community identifies with a little bit of that world and the new definition of Daywalkers, these global hyphenated multi-talented individuals capable of doing more things at one time, skill masters, as we call them. So, we gon' keep going, we gon' keep bringing."

Little known about the new Blade at this point except that Ali will be playing the titular role and Stacy Osei-Kuffour is on board to write the screenplay. At one point Wesley Snipes said he was developing two different possible Blade projects with Marvel Studios but a lot of that seemed to fade when the Mahershala Ali Blade announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man 3, and WandaVision seem to be toying with the idea of the multiverse so maybe there is a way for Snipes to have a moment in the rebooted MCU Blade. Anything is possible at this point.

Wesley Snipes first appeared as the character in 1998's Blade and the film became an early indication that Marvel could be viable with the fans and at the box office. The film took in $131 million worldwide and eventually paved the way for two sequels. Blade II was released in 2002 and Blade: Trinity followed in 2004. By the end of Snipes' run as the character, the franchise grossed $416 million worldwide. Blade essentially paved the way for bigger Marvel box office hits like X-Men and Spider-Man so its importance to the genre is more significant than it's probably given credit for.

As of now, no director has been set for the Blade reboot and there is no indication as to when the film will go into production. All fans can do now is speculate how they will hit the character into the greater MCU and if there is a little woman for Wesley Snipes to return to the franchise after all these years. I certainly wouldn't mind a cameo or even a larger role with him playing someone entirely new if it's done right.

Do YOU think Wesley Snipes should have a cameo in the Blade reboot?
