Despite also premiering on Disney+ via their Premier Access platform, Marvel's Black Widow is still expected to debut to a staggering box office figure, according to various box office analysts.
The most recent box office tracking data, courtesy of Box Office Pro, has Black Widow pulling in as much as $90 million on its opening weekend. Tracking also says, on the low end, the film could pull in about $65 million. The low-end figure wouldn't be ideal but it also wouldn't be ideal. The $90 million predictions, however, would be considered a win for the box office which is still emerging from the ashes of the global pandemic that shuttered movie theaters for over a year. The high-end figure is even more impressive considering that the film will be available through Disney+ Premier Access which will give people the option to watch it from the comfort of their own home for an additional $30.
A $100 million debut also isn't out of the question and if that's the case, we would be looking at our first $100 million opening weekend in a very long time. Fast 9 is tracking between $60-70 million so not even Dom and his crew are likely to come close to a $100 million opening. It would be cool to see Marvel's first lady accomplish the feat since this is Scarlett Johansson's swan song as the title character.
Before the pandemic became an issue, Black Widow was tracking to open between $90-130 million on its original May 2020 date. That means $90 million was the low-end and $130 million was on the high end of expectations. Considering that movie theaters still aren't 100% open just yet, particularly in various locations in Canada, a $90 million debut would be a huge win, not only for Marvel but for the entire film industry.
