Here's something that seems right out of The Outer LimitsDeadline has reported that Apple Studios have come out on top in a bidding war with multiple studios and streamers for the rights to Dolly, a sci-fi courtroom drama in which a "robotic 'companion doll' kills its owner and then shocks the world by claiming that she is not guilty and asking for a lawyer."

The project, which is based on a short story of the same name by Elizabeth Bear, has Florence Pugh (Black Widow) attached to star with Drew Pearce (Hotel Artemis) and Vanessa Taylor (The Shape of Water) set to pen the script. However, Deadline notes that the project hasn't yet been greenlit as the script isn't complete and a director hasn't been chosen. Even with the short synopsis, Dolly sounds like it could be quite an interesting project.

Florence Pugh has several projects over the horizon, including starring alongside Harry Styles and Chris Pine in Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling, which follows an unhappy housewife in the 1950s who discovers a disturbing truth, while her loving husband hides a dark secret. Pugh is also slated to star in Nita Prose's yet-to-be-released novel The Maid, which takes place at the Regency Grand Hotel and follows Molly, a maid who leaves every room perfect and pristine, all while getting to know the dirty secrets of each guest. Of course, Florence Pugh will also be starring alongside Scarlett Johannson in Black Widow, which was supposed to have been released last year but was delayed several times to the COVID-19 pandemic. Black Widow is currently slated to hit theaters on May 7, 2021, but I'm not about to hold my breath.
