Black Panther’s Ludwig Göransson to compose score for The Mandalorian

I'll admit that the thought of a live-action STAR WARS TV series initially didn't strike me as a great idea, but as The Mandalorian has assembled an impressive cast and an interesting group of directors, I've found myself getting quite excited about the series. It was announced today that a new addition has been made behind-the-scenes as Ludwig Göransson has been tapped to write the score for The Mandalorian.

"Words fail to express how surreal and humbling it feels to be invited into the Star Wars universe," Göransson said. "I am deeply grateful to Jon Favreau and Disney for this opportunity and to John Williams for raising the bar so high with his iconic, intrepid scores — they will never be matched. In these next months I hope to honor the tradition of Star Wars’ musical landscape while propelling The Mandalorian into new and uncharted territory. And I will try to remember that there is no try." As for where you might have heard Göransson's work before, well, he's composed scores for quite a number of big projects, including FRUITVALE STATION, THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN, CREED, CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE, BLACK PANTHER, DEATH WISH, VENOM, and CREED II. On the small-screen side of things, he's also scored Community, New Girl, and Happy Endings. I look forward to see what he's got in store for The Mandalorian!

Joining Pedro Pascal in The Mandalorian will be Gina Carano (DEADPOOL), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (PREDATOR), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (JACK REACHER), and Nick Nolte (TROPIC THUNDER). "We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to," said Executive Producer Jon Favreau. In addition to serving as EP, Favreau has also penned the series, which is set "after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic." Joining Favreau behind-the-scenes are Dave Filoni (Star Wars Rebels), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (DOPE), Bryce Dallas Howard (SOLEMATES), and Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK), who will be directing episodes of The Mandalorian. The series will launch on Disney+, their upcoming streaming service, late next year.
