Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: First reactions pour in after the Marvel sequel has its premiere

At long last, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made its screen debut at the film’s premiere and started audiences on the path to catharsis with the celebration and tribute to the beloved actor who brought the character to life. It was a bittersweet occasion as the Marvel Cinematic Universe makes its next steps towards a new phase with this epic conclusion and many of the familiars in tow, but with a heavy cloud still present. In admirable fashion, two notable tributes were displayed to show that late actor Chadwick Boseman remained in everyone’s hearts. Letitia Wright wore an outfit similar to Boseman’s formal attire at a past Academy Awards appearance, and the film’s director, Ryan Coogler, wore dog tags with the actor’s face engraved.

After the premiere, those in attendance were quick to post their reactions. Although first reactions can usually be regarded as hype, the notable standout comments point towards Angela Basset and Letitia Wright specifically. Both characters these women portray can assumably have the biggest load to carry, as they need to evoke the emotions of both their characters and the audience to a certain extent. Both Jack McBryan, co-founder of The Direct, and Critics Choice Association member, Orlando En El Cine, highlight the performances of these two.

Another standout is the debut of Namor. People have been responding positively to Tenoch Huerta’s portrayal, saying he also brings “some of the best acting seen all year” and he “just kills it.” Brian Davids, who is a writer for The Hollywood Reporter, says this movie “abandons the studio’s trademark tone” and “the craftwork levels up in every conceivable way.” Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was even called Marvel’s “magnum opus” by a viewer. With some pretty powerful statements, it seems near impossible that the movie could live up to them. However, it will speak for itself next month.
