It’s been less than a week since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered on Disney+, and Marvel Studios has announced that it has become the most-watched Marvel movie premiere on the streaming service globally, based on hours streamed in its first five days.

Marvel Studios didn’t supply viewership figures, but Samba TV, which measures viewership across 3 million smart TVs in the U.S., said that 2.1 million U.S. households streamed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Col Strain, VP of Measurement at Samba TV, said, “Just as it smashed box office records last year, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made a splash in its debut on Disney+ as 2.1 million U.S. households streamed the much-anticipated sequel to the iconic film featuring a star-studded cast.

Cole Strain added, “Black households were more likely to watch Black Panther: Wakanda Forever than other recent superhero franchises, including Batman, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Adam. There was a significant over-index of 44% against the average U.S. household among Black households based on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever viewership in the first five days, surpassing that of the other films. The Black Panther sequel also caught fire with younger audiences, including Gen Z households who were nearly 10% more likely to tune in compared to the average household.” Marvel has more Black Panther: Wakanda Forever goodies in store for audiences, as Assembled: The Making of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will start streaming on Disney+ on February 8th.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finds Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye, and the Dora Milaje fighting to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. When Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, alerts them to a global threat and his disturbing plan to thwart it, the Wakandans band together with the help of War Dog Nakia and Evertt Ross and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. The film stars Letitia Wright as Shuri, Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda, Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Michaela Coel as Aneka, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, Mabel Adena as Namora, Alex Livinalli as Attuma, and Martin Freeman as Everett Ross.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released on 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray tomorrow. Will you be adding the Marvel sequel to your collection?
