Black Panther, sequel, production

Although many are still reeling from the unexpected death of Chadwick Boseman, it seems that the BLACK PANTHER sequel is moving forward and will actually kick off production a little sooner than we likely expected. According to THR, Marvel is now preparing the BLACK PANTHER sequel to shoot in Atlanta next July for six months or more.

Letita Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett are all expected to return for the BLACK PANTHER sequel, with THR saying that Wright's character of Shuri could be taking on a larger role. Additionally, the outlet has also reported that Tenoch Huerta (Nacros: Mexico) is in talks to play one of the antagonists. Any guesses on who that might be? Marvel Studios has already shot down rumours that they would using a digital double of Chadwick Boseman in the BLACK PANTHER sequel, with executive vice-president Victoria Alonso recently saying, "No. There’s only one Chadwick and he’s not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really." It remains to be seen exactly what the plans are for Boseman's character, but I've no doubt that Marvel will give him a touching tribute.

Although there have been several Marvel Cinematic Universe projects in production this year, 2020 has been the first year in a decade with no MCU films hitting our screens; We can thank COVID-19 for that. SPIDER-MAN 3 and DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS are already in production, with THOR: LOVE & THUNDER, ANT-MAN 3, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 all expected to enter production along with BLACK PANTHER 2 next year. Not only that, but there are plenty of Marvel TV shows on the way as well, with WandaVision slated to debut on Disney+ on January 15, 2021.
