Black Panther 2: Michaela Coel joins the cast of Wakanda Forever

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever kicked off production at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta several weeks ago, and while much of the original cast is expected to have returned, there will naturally be a few new additions. Variety has reported that one of those new additions will be Michaela Coel, best known as the writer, director, producer, and star of I May Destroy You for HBO Max. Cole received widespread acclaim for her work on the series, and even recently scored four Emmy nominations.

As expected, it's not known who Michaela Coel will be playing in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but she should prove to be an incredible addition to an already packed cast. Variety says that Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba and Angela Bassett are all likely reprise their roles from the original film, but that nothing official as been announced. Despite that, Winston Duke did recently confirm that he would be returning as M'Baku, even saying how emotional it was without the involvement of Chadwick Boseman.

It was very emotional to read the script. It was emotional to pack to go back to set. But we're all a bit of a family now and we grieve together, and we're making something really special.

Ryan Coogler will once again be directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated for a July 8, 2022 release.
