At last, Black Mirror Season 6 is on the way from Netflix! While we haven’t gotten any new episodes of Charlie Brooker’s iconic science fiction anthology series since 2019, that’s finally about to change with the streamer revealing to Variety that season 6 is finally in the works. Black Mirror Season 6 is set to follow the same template as season 5, meaning fewer but longer episodes. However, Variety also states that there will be more episodes than we got in season 5 and that they’ll be even more cinematic in scope. In fact, Variety says that each episode will be treated as an individual film. Last season only included three instalments, but they were all over an hour long and featured some pretty big guest stars, including Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Scott and Miley Cyrus.
There is no word yet on when we can expect these new episodes, but a 2023 debut seems in the cards. Brooker never rushes Black Mirror, but it’s always worth the wait when it finally arrives. Despite no Black Mirror since 2019, Brooker’s continued to work with the streamer, putting out the star-studded New Year’s specials, Death to 2020 and Death to 2021.
Black Mirror’s return has long been teased by the streamer, with it being one of their flagship franchises ever since they got the rights from Channel 4 in the UK. Netflix has been under fire from investors after posting an alarming 200k subscriber loss that caused their stock to plummet. Since then, Netflix has moved up the release date of the next season of Cobra Kai to September and seems bent on winning back the subscribers they’ve lost by doubling down on what works. Black Mirror most definitely works, so it’s no surprise the streamer has done what they needed to do to bring it back, although I imagine it was always going to come back sooner or later.
Let us know in the comments what your favorite Black Mirror episode is. Mine is still White Christmas.
