Black Mirror season 7 ordered by Netflix

Netflix has ordered season 7 of the anthology series Black Mirror, which was created and is written by Charlie Brooker

Season 6 of the anthology series Black Mirror was released through the Netflix streaming service earlier this year (you can read our review of the season HERE), and now Variety reports that Netflix has ordered a seventh season of the show! No details on Black Mirror season 7, not even an expected episode count, are available at this time.

Created and written by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us.

Brooker will be back to executive produce Black Mirror season 7 alongside Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades.

The fact that Netflix wants another season of Black Mirror is no surprise, as the sixth season was a success for the streamer. As Variety pointed out, season 6 “reached the Top 10 in 92 countries and spent 4 weeks in Netflix’s global top 10 English-speaking TV.” Variety also confirmed that “the rights to Black Mirror are complicated, which partly accounted for the delay between Seasons 5 and 6. Brooker and creative partner Jones left their production company, the Enedemol Shine-backed House of Tomorrow, in January 2020 to set up shop at Netflix under a new production banner called Broke and Bones. But under the terms of their deal the rights to Black Mirror stayed with Endemol Shine, which was acquired by Banijay Group in 2020. Banijay Rights licenses the show to Netflix.”

I have yet to watch an episode of Black Mirror, but I’m going to get around to it… one of these days…
