It's safe to say that 2020 has…been something, and while many of us would probably like to wipe the past year from our memories, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker is developing a mockumentary for Netflix that will dive into the absurdity we've faced this year. Not only that, but the project will feature none other than Hugh Grant, fresh off of HBO's The Undoing.
Hugh Grant spilled the beans on the 2020 mockumentary while speaking with Vulture about his next project.
I’m doing a thing tomorrow, actually. Charlie Brooker [the creator of Black Mirror] has written a mockumentary about 2020. It’s for Netflix, and I am a historian who’s being interviewed about the year. I’m pretty repellent, actually! And you’ll like my wig.
A repellent Hugh Grant with a delightful wig narrating the madness that is 2020; I'm game. It's been well over a year since the last season of Black Mirror debuted on Netflix, and while some have joked that 2020 is just one giant episode of the anthology series, Charlie Brooker has stated that he doesn't feel right releasing new episodes of a dystopian nature. "At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those," Brooker explained. "I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh."
Hugh Grant was recently featured alongside Nicole Kidman in The Undoing, a six-episode HBO series that followed Grace (Kidman) and Jonathan Fraser (Grant), a couple who are living the only lives they ever wanted for themselves, but in the wake of a violent death and a chain of terrible revelations, Grace must navigate a very public disaster as she dismantles one life and creates another for her family. The Undoing concluded just last night and you can check out a review of the series from our own Alex Maidy right here.
