Thanks to books and movies like LORD OF THE RINGS and HARRY POTTER, everyone has dreamt of being a wizard or witch at some point in their young lives. But, come on, let’s be honest: being a warlock sounds sooo much better. I don’t know the difference, but it just sounds cooler, you know? Well, in the new movie THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS, young Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) will know what it’s like to be a warlock with the help of his eccentric uncle (Jack Black) and his quirky neighbor (Cate Blanchett). Learning these skills will be extremely important, as a danger is coming that only some sick magical skills can stop. You can get a taste of the danger in the new trailer for the movie from Eli Roth.
Here is the official synopsis:
In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in The House with a Clock in Its Walls, from Amblin Entertainment. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.
I found the first trailer sort of funny and odd, but I wasn't sure if it was for me. But this new trailer is fantastic, showcasing two strange, charming performances from Black and Blanchett. On top of that, the movie looks suitably magical and exciting (as far as PG adventure flicks go) and like a beast all its own. Perhaps Roth can pull a Peter Jackson and make the leap from R-rated horror to accessible fantasy, proving underneath the penchant for blood and gore was an imagination eagerly waiting to film Jack Black hurl fireballs at, well, something.
THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS arrives September 21.
