Black Adam has been a long time coming. Dwayne Johnson has been attached to play the DC anti-hero for quite some time, but the project has experienced numerous delays, the latest of course being COVID-19. At long last, production on the film is expected to kick off spring 2021 and the cast has grown a little larger as THR has reported that Quintessa Swindell has signed on to play Cyclone.
Quintessa Swindell was one of the stars of Netflix's Trinkets and has also appeared in HBO's Euphoria and is slated to star alongside Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan in Neil Burger's Voyagers as well as HBO's upcoming reboot of In Treatment. In Black Adam, they will play Maxine Hunkell/Cyclone, the granddaughter of Red Tornado and member of the Justice Society with the ability to manipulate wind and sound. Swindell will be joining Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher. Sarah Shahi also has a supporting role in the film. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but producer Hiram Garcia has previously teased the introduction of the Justice Society in the upcoming film.
We are so excited to introduce the Justice Society, especially Hawkman who’s such a beloved character and one of those heroes who’s always meant so much to the DC universe. Having them play in the same sandbox as Black Adam is going to be fantastic, and for the already established fans of these characters I think they are going to be really excited to see what elements from classic story lines we take inspiration from as we bring these characters together. When you take a powerhouse like Black Adam and inject him into this DC cinematic universe you want to make sure you are putting characters around him that can really up the stakes. As DJ likes to say the hierarchy of power in the DC universe really is going to change so Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone will have their hands full no matter how we choose to have them interact with Black Adam.
Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to welcome Quintessa Swindell to the cast, saying "My pleasure to officially welcome, [Quintessa Swindell] to our BLACK ADAM cast. They’ll be taking on the role of CYCLONE. Can’t wait to work with them and WE READY to rumble in the DC jungle."
