Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam movie finally wrapped production, and the actor has called the film a "career-definer," adding that "this has been one for the ages and easily the hardest labor and toughest grind mentally and physically of my entire career." You really do get the sense that Johnson and company have been working extra hard to make Black Adam special, and it seems that level of commitment extended to all areas of the production.
While speaking with Collider, Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia teased that the film will be utilizing and displaying Black Adam's powers in a way never before seen.
This is a character with amazing abilities. He has super speed, can fly, and has world breaking strength to name a few. We wanted to make sure moviegoers feel that throughout the entire movie. You're not going to see him use super speed just once and then it stops, this is part of his arsenal. It’s common to see abilities fall to the wayside when dealing with characters like that but one of our many goals was to keep continuity there and push the bar in terms of how we do it. For example, the technology we're using to make Black Adam fly has never been done before. It's completely unique. It was critical for us to ensure that it felt special, authentic, and real. Jaume took that to heart. Our special effects' team are Oscar winners, and we certainly put them to work.
As for exactly what this unique technology is, we don't know, but Dwayne Johnson has previously shared images of some of the "very cutting edge" shots they did during production, including one that used an advanced robotic arm called a Bolt with a high-speed Phantom camera to shoot the actor at 960 frames per second.
In addition to Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam is also set to introduce the Justice Society as Noah Centineo is onboard to play Atom Smasher, with Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate. Black Adam is also slated to star Sarah Shahi as "a university professor and freedom fighter leading the resistance in Kahndaq," as well as Marwan Kenzari in a mysterious role expected to be the main villain. Mohammed Amer, James Cusati-Moyer, Uli Latukefu, and Bodhi Sabongui round out the rest of the cast. Black Adam is currently slated to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
