Back at the end of 2018, Netflix had a huge hit with their apocalyptic horror thriller Bird Box, based on a novel by Josh Malerman (pick up a copy HERE). While Malerman has written a Bird Box sequel called Malorie (buy that one HERE), Netflix has been focusing on the idea of producing Bird Box spin-offs that will be set in various locations around the globe. First up is a spin-off that’s set in Spain and was written and directed by Alex and David Pastor. While we’ve previously heard that this spin-off was going by the title A Ciegas, which happens to have been the Spanish title used for the first Bird Box, Netflix has now announced that the film is officially titled Bird Box Barcelona – and it will be available to watch on the streaming service as of July 14th!
Georgina Campbell of Barbarian stars in Bird Box Barcelona alongside Mario Casas, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Diego Calva, Patrick Criado, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo De Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia.
Here’s the synopsis: From the producers of the global phenomenon, Bird Box, comes Bird Box Barcelona, an expansion of the film that riveted audiences in 2018. After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, Sebastian must navigate his own survival journey through the desolate streets of Barcelona. As he forms uneasy alliances with other survivors and they try to escape the city, an unexpected and even more sinister threat grows.
Malerman produced Bird Box Barcelona with Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, Núria Valls, Adrián Guerra, and Ryan Lewis. Ainsley Davies and Brian Williams serve as executive producers.
I really enjoyed Bird Box and became a fan of Campbell while watching Barbarian, so I’m looking forward to Bird Box Barcelona. This will be an instant watch for me as soon as it hits Netflix.
