It seems that Showtime is really pulling out all the stops to make their upcoming "Penny Dreadful" a success, especially when it comes to the casting of the supernatural/psychosexual horror series. We've already told you about the casting of Josh Hartnett and Eva Green, which we followed up with the news of former 007 Timothy Dalton signing on for the new series. In recent weeks we've learned that Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear and Harry Treadaway were the latest to join the ever-growing cast list, and today Deadline is reporting that "Doctor Who" hottie Billie Piper has now jumped onboard "Penny Dreadful", set to play ' an Irish immigrant trying to escape a dark past'.
The series draws from famous works of literature, posing that some of the most terrifying protagonists — Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray, Dracula’s Van Helsing and more — come together in Victorian London.
"Penny Dreadful" was written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes and Neal Street's Pippa Harris. The Show will have 8 episodes and will start shooting this fall in London and will air in 2014.
