Bill & Ted Face The Music to hit VOD & select cinemas simultaneously

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Due to the ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC will not follow a traditional theatrical release and will debut simultaneously on PVOD and in any cinemas willing to play the highly-anticipated third film on September 1st, 2020.

Orion Pictures confirmed the shift early Thursday when also releasing a second trailer in advance of a virtual Comic-Con panel that is set to take place this weekend. The film is the latest Hollywood studio film to abandon a traditional release and make itself available on PVOD or streaming amid the ongoing pandemic and theater closures across the U.S. and the globe.

The film was originally scheduled to open on August 21 but the film was forced to move its date most recently to August 28. It remains unclear when cinemas in major markets such as Los Angeles and New York City will be back online and this is the main reason why some films are delaying their openings or going the PVOD route. TENET just recently delayed its release indefinitely while I'm sure films like MULAN, scheduled to open August 28, will follow suit.

It's being reported that Orion Pictures, via "Hollywood Reporter", came to this decision to alter their release plans in order to give consumers a choice they felt comfortable with in terms of viewing the film. The one size fits all approach is said to no longer be available and now this is steadily becoming the "new normal."

In the third film, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprise their roles as Theodore "Ted" Logan and William "Bill" S. Preston, Esq. to once again parade through time, this time as adults and with the help of their daughters, to save the world by creating one more "bodacious" song. The film also stars Samara Weaving, Brigette Lundy-Paine, and William Sadler.
