It seems most of you are against the idea of Peter Berg directing a new GHOSTBUSTERS featuring an all-female cast for the team, but there's one person who likes the concept: Bill Murray.
Bill Murray was at TIFF over the weekend, and in an interview with Access Hollywood, Murray was asked how he felt about the female GHOSTBUSTERS movie rumors. His response?
It sounds great to me. It sounds as good an idea as any other! There are a lot of women that could scare off any kind of vapor! No, it’s a grande idea, I don’t know who they’re talking about, but it’s a good idea, I would watch it! I mean, I love Robert Palmer’s videos, so why wouldn’t I love the female Ghostbusters?
Later, while speaking with the Toronto Star, Bill Murray revealed which actresses he'd like to see play Ghostbusters.
Melissa (McCarthy) would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny! I like this girl Linda Cardellini (Mad Men) a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.
Melissa McCarthy was also at TIFF for ST. VINCENT, and when asked if she'd like play a Ghostbuster, the actress said she wouldn't say no, but also says she hasn't been approached about possibly starring in the film
I think that somebody is really trying to do it, but nobody has talked to me about it. Listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them.
Last year Emma Stone was reportedly up for a role in GHOSTBUSTERS 3, but turned it down. However, the rumored Peter Berg version of GHOSTBUSTERS doesn't sound like it's the same as other attempts at a third film, and maybe she would be interested in playing a Ghostbuster. I'm not surprised to see Bill Murray is a Kristen Wiig fan, and I agree she would make a fantastic Ghostbuster. The only person that really sticks out from Bill Murray's list is Linda Cardellini, but only because she's not as big of name as the other actresses.
