Not that I don’t love Bill Murray‘s bit parts in, say, Wes Anderson films, but if you’re like me and look forward to his leading-man roles, ROCK THE KASBAH looks like it’s going to deliver some classic Murray. The story follows that of Richie Lanz (Murray), a rock manager who takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan. Through a serious of unfortunate events, she makes off with his money and passport leaving him stuck in Kabul. You can check out some of the crazy to ensue in this first trailer!
I can’t say that I’ve seen much from director Marry Levinson (THE HUMBLING, MAN OF THE YEAR) lately that really impressed me, but it looks like taking Bill Murray “out of his comfort zone” is a hell of a start! Add to that the likes of Bruce Willis, Zooey Deschanel, Scott Caan, Danny McBride and Kate Hudson, and you have one hell of a cast. I’m not sure how well this flick will do in theaters right before Halloween, but it should serve as a nice reminder of a character only one man can play.
ROCK THE KASBAH opens in theaters on October 23, 2015.
