THE MUMMY may not have gotten Universal's Dark Universe off to a rousing start, but, as far as we knew, the next film in the potential franchise was coming along just fine. Bill Condon's BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN was set to debut in 2019, but it was announced yesterday that Condon and Universal Pictures had decided to postpone the film due to script issues. "None of us want to move too quickly to meet a release date when we know this special movie needs more time to come together," said Universal in a statement. "Bill is a director whose enormous talent has been proven time and again, and we all look forward to continuing to work on this film together." Despite the setback, neither Javier Bardem nor Angelina Jolie have walked away from the project, but they're also not committing to it until they see David Koepp's next pass at the script.

However, if Angelina Jolie declines to sign on for BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, Bill Condon may already have someone else in mind to step into the role. According to The Wrap, Condon has his eye on Gal Gadot (WONDER WOMAN) to play the titular bride, but that Gadot hasn't yet been approached about the role. Until something official has been decided, take this with a grain of salt, but Gal Gadot has certainly proven that she can carry a film and this role might provide her with a different challenge.

What do you folks think, if Angelina Jolie passes, would Gal Gadot make for a fitting Bride of Frankenstein?

Universal's hopes for these Dark Universe movies are more action-oriented with less of an emphasis on horror, "basically Fast and the Furious meets The Avengers – but with super monsters," said one insider. After THE MUMMY failed to generate much interest in the Dark Universe franchise, another insider told The Wrap that "You just assume they’d throw out a lot of that thinking out after ‘The Mummy”s’ Rotten Tomatoes score, but it doesn’t seem like it.  Makes you wonder if they’ll ever get those (Universal Monsters) right. Why is it so hard for them?" That sounds awful, and if Universal is still planning on going down that route and deliver another MUMMY in different wrappings, their Dark Universe may not last much longer.
