Detective Axel Foley will be back on the beat! In just over two years that is. It was announced today that Paramount will release BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 on March 25th, 2016.
Eddie Murphy will return for the title role and we heard earlier this month that he’s heading to back to Detroit according to Jerry Bruckheimer who is producing the flick. Brett Ratner is set to direct and Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL) are writing the script.
As a huge fan of the series (well, the first two installments) I think it will be great to see Murphy return to this role. He always seemed to have a lot of fun playing Axel Foley, even in the disappointing BEVERLY HILLS COP III sequel. WHY did the movie take place at an amusement park!? Someone tell me what happened there, I can’t’ even. This time around, I’d like to see Axel take on the mean streets of Detroit; maybe some gangs instead of suits. And, of course, it should to be set to an 80’s soundtrack. Wishful thinking?
What do you guys think? Can Murphy recapture the Axel Foley magic after being MIA for two decades?
