Admittedly, when the first trailer dropped for the original HAPPY DEATH DAY, I was a little apprehensive. A PG-13 slasher movie? Really? However, once I saw the film in theaters, I was suprised to find that it actually became one of my favorite movie theater experiences of the year. The crowd loved it, and lo and behold, so did I. I couldn't help but fall prey to Jessica Rothe's charms, as she used her wits to turn one of the most terrifying experiences of her life into an absolute laugh riot for all involved. Also, how could I not love a movie that features a THEY LIVE poster on the dorm room wall? Blumhouse stole my heart the first time around, and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us with HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U, the upcoming highly anticipated sequel.
I'm also super stoked to check out ARCTIC, not only because I would watch Mads Mikkelsen wait in line at the DMV, but also because the whole man vs. nature scenario is very much my brand. There's also a brand new trailer for THE PRODIGY, which is directed by Nicholas McCarthy, a.k.a. the man who brought us the very underrated THE PACT a few years back, which you should definitely go ahead and check out right now if you're looking for a good ghost story. This week in movies also features trailers for THE LAST LAUGH, THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2, CLOSE, and THE DRONE.
Next up we have TV trailers, and can I just say how on board I am for KINGDOM? Here's a show that might actually make me interested in the zombie sub genre again. Of course, I'm also very much looking forward to the third season of STRANGER THINGS, as well as THE PUNISHER season 2, which is set to feature the return of Deborah Ann Woll, which is very interesting seeing as how Netflix decided to pull the plug prematurely on DAREDEVIL. Check out the trailers for yourself below!
This week was a pretty solid one for trailers, but I have to say I'm already pretty smitten with ARCTIC, which is really saying something because Blumhouse's HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U has me all kinds of excited. I just can't wait to see Mikkelsen battling it out in the wild against the elements. This seems like a movie that would be perfect to showcase his many talents. Count me in.
