I was a big fan of Denis Villeneuve's SICARIO, and although it wasn't exactly a movie which was crying out for a sequel, it seems that we're getting one whether we like it or not. Thankfully, SICARIO: DAY OF SOLDADO (yes, that is a new title) is looking like a very worthy follow-up as it brings Benicio Del Toro's Alejandro Gillick and Josh Brolin's CIA agent Matt Graver together again as they continue diving into the world of drug cartel's and assassins.
Directed by Stefano Sollima, the sequel finds Alejandro once again in the employ of Graver and tasked with starting a war between dueling cartels by kidnapping Isabela Reyes (Isabela Moner), the teenage daughter of drug kingpin Carols Reyes. When the mission is exposed, Alejandro is order to terminate Isabela, but he sees something of his own daughter in the young girl and struggles with the choice of following orders or doing the right thing. "He has the chance for an eye for an eye, but sees a young girl going through what his daughter went through," Del Toro told USAToday. "He has to decide to follow orders or protect the girl. It's just one thing about this screenplay that makes it interesting."
SICARIO: DAY OF SOLDADO is set for a June 29, 2018 release.
