Last week we got a viral message from Michael Shannon‘s Zod from MAN OF STEEL and this week we get one from Benedict Cumberbatch‘s John Harrison/Khan/otherknownvillain from STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. The interesting thing is that while MAN OF STEEL’s message came through via a static-like transmission, the STAR TREAK INTO DARKNESS one has…video noise? Wait, are they still using videotape that far in the future? The marketing for the film has been substantially strong thus far, but that just reeks of laziness.
Anyway, the message itself is more of Cumberbatch oozing that sinister voice of his to dissect the plight of Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine). It’s cool enough just to hear more of Cumberbatch’s villain lay down some threats, but at this point it’s not necessary, just like the lastest trailer, even as cool as it was. It’s a foregone conclusion. Pretty much everyone is seeing this movie.
He’ll make sure of it:
STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke, and Benedict Cumberbatch opens in 3D and IMAX on May 17, 2013.
