Bend & Snap! Mindy Kaling & Dan Goor are writing Legally Blonde 3

LEGALLY BLONDE 3 has found its new writers! It has been announced that Mindy Kaling & Dan Goor have been hired to tackle the latest adventure in pink with Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon).

This will actually be the second pairing for Kaling & Goor who are also working on the Kaling/Priyanka Chopra wedding comedy that Universal won in a very heated auction last year. This isn't the first time that a project by Kaling has been part of a lucrative bidding war. Her movie LATE NIGHT, which the actress starred in, wrote and produced, made its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by Amazon for a staggering $13 million.

Reese Witherspoon is still leading the project, reprising her endearing lead role as an attorney with a heart of gold. Witherspoon is also attached as a producer through her Hello Sunshine studio banner. LEGALLY BLONDE 3 was actually announced close to two years ago. Reese Witherspoon even posted an Instagram video from her pool as Elle Woods, announcing the new film. From there, news on the project kind of stalled. The original writers on the film, Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, did submit a take on the third film but Kaling & Goor's script will be a new fresh take & not a makeover.

The previous two LEGALLY BLONDE films have grossed close to $267 million at the worldwide box office with the first film being extremely lucrative for MGM. Budgeted at $18 million, the one that started it all took home $141.7 million globally. The movies also spawned a 2007 Broadway musical which received seven Tony nominations.

Kaling recently co-created and is the executive producer on the critically acclaimed Netflix comedy series Never Have I Ever which follows an Indian American teenage girl and is inspired by Kaling’s own childhood. The actress also has two ensemble SAG wins under her belt and six Emmy nominations as an executive producer and co-star on The Office. Goor is a two-time Emmy winning writer of The Daily Show and Late Night With Conan O’Brien. He is also the co-creator of Universal Television’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine and was an EP and writer on NBC’s Parks and Recreation.

Looks like they're putting quite the pedigree together for this. It's not like we NEED another LEGALLY BLONDE but if the right people are involved, this could be a worthy endeavor.
