Ben Whishaw is in talks to become a part of Disney's MARY POPPINS RETURNS. The actor, who would join the likes of Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Meryl Streep on the film, would play a grown-up Michael Banks 20 years later in the timeline from where we left off at the end of the 1964 original
For the purposes of the movie, the older Michael will be in the midst of a personal loss that brings his big sister Jane back into the picture. That also prompts the return of Mary Poppins (Blunt) who comes with her friend Jack (Miranda) in tow to assist the family.
Rob Marshall is set to direct, as the film is lined up for principal photography at the beginning of next year. Disney has already dated the MARY POPPINS sequel for December 25, 2018.
