Ben Mendelsohn’s Sheriff of Nottingham stands out in new Robin Hood images

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

There are more than a few Robin Hood projects kicking around in various stages of development, but the first to arrive will be Otto Bathurst's (Peaky Blinders) "gritty, revisionist" take on the Robin Hood legend starring Taron Egerton (KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE). The upcoming film will follow Robin Hood as he returns home from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands. In addition to Egerton, ROBIN HOOD also stars Eve Hewson (The Knick) as Maid Marian, Jamie Foxx (BABY DRIVER) as Little John, Jamie Dornan (The Fall) as Will Scarlett, and Ben Mendelsohn (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY) as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Speaking of the Sheriff, a few new images have been released which offer us our first real look at Ben Mendelsohn in the role, and his outfit is a little more futuristic dystopia than medieval.

I'm still not exactly sure what to think of ROBIN HOOD, it looks a little all over the place at the moment, but I'll reserve judgement until we see the first trailer. If Jamie Foxx is to be believed, we might not be ready for just how different ROBIN HOOD will be. Do tell.

It’s different. It was directed by Otto Bathurst, who shot Peaky Blinders. The way they shot it was crazy, it looks like you’re watching Zero Dark Thirty. We’re shooting with our bows, but they computer-generated it so it’s rapid-fire, almost like an AK. I saw that and was like ‘Oh, they ain’t ready for this.'

ROBIN HOOD will hit theaters on September 21, 2018.
