"Twisted twins" Jen and Sylvia Soska are currently in production on their remake of David Cronenberg's 1977 film RABID, which stars Laura Vandervoort as the main character Rose, a role originated by Marilyn Chambers. Now that cameras are rolling, the names of several of Vandervoort's co-stars have been revealed.
The story is "set in the world of high fashion", so the cast includes Ben Hollingsworth (pictured above) as a fashion photographer and Mackenzie Gray as an arrogant fashion designer. Also in the film are Hanneke Talbot as Rose's best friend and, in unspecified roles, AJ Mendez and CM Punk.
Rose is a woman who,
following a disfiguring accident, receives an untested stem cell treatment that, while it restores her beauty, has dangerous consequences.
The Soskas are directing from a script they wrote with John Serge. In a statement, the sisters said they are
not fans of the current trend of soulless remakes, as they disrespect the fans and the original body of work. Our RABID is a continuation of the thoughts and conversation David started, but modernized through a female perspective."
A Back 40 Pictures production, RABID is being produced by Michael Walker, Paul Lalonde, and John Vidette.
A U.S. theatrical release is being planned for the remake, with Scream Factory set to distribute the film across multiple platforms in the United States. A71 Entertainment will be distributing RABID in Canada, with 101 Films distributing it in the United Kingdom.
I wasn't a big fan of the first RABID, so I don't really have strong feelings about the remake in any direction. I will be watching it when it's released, though.
