Ben Foster is Lance Armstrong in the first German trailer for The Program

Stephen Frears has been known for his dramatic portraits of Queen Elizabeth in THE QUEEN and last year’s Oscar contender PHILOMENA but his next film will tackle an all together different sort of true life drama. THE PROGRAM tells the story of the Lance Armstrong doping scandal with actor Ben Foster playing the Tour de France winning cyclist.

The first trailer has appeared online for THE PROGRAM which gives us our first look at the great cast that includes Foster, Chris O’Dowd, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’s Lee Pace, and Breaking Bad alum Jesse Plemons. While it is entirely in German, the footage looks pretty damn good with all of the actors in full intensity.

An Irish sports journalist becomes convinced that Lance Armstrong’s performances during the Tour de France victories are fueled by banned substances. With this conviction, he starts hunting for evidence that will expose Armstrong.

Ben Foster is one of the most underrated actors working today. etween 3:10 TO YUMA and LONE SURVIVOR, Foster has shown himself worthy of a leading role showcase. THE PROGRAM could be that movie. The film doesn’t currently have a domestic release date but is slated to hit screens in Europe this fall. Hopefully an English-language trailer drops soon.
