Ben Affleck’s standalone Batman film isn’t quite as far along as we’d hoped

Ben Affleck Batman Justice League

Earlier this week Ben Affleck told the Associated Press that the working title of his upcoming standalone Batman movie was THE BATMAN, which naturally sent Bat-fans from all over the globe, including us, chiming in with their thoughts on the title. Affleck has been doing the rounds promoting THE ACCOUNTANT these past few weeks and during a Facebook Q&A with E! News he commented on how quickly his remarks about the possible title were picked up and cautioned that the film was still in the very early stages.

I mentioned the other day…it’s been around for a long time, the movie…there is no Batman movie happening yet, we’re still trying to figure it out, you know, get the script and budget and all that stuff. And someone said, ‘what are you calling it?’ and I had said, like, when we were promoting another movie, I was like ‘we don’t have a name for it, we’re just going with The Batman or Batman movie’, and I said that, and everyone was like ‘Affleck announces the title of his Batman movie!’

Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes previously said that the standalone BATMAN film was "a year-and-a-half out" but didn't specify whether that meant a year-and-a-half until the release or the start of production. Given Affleck's comments, I'd wager that the former may be more likely. Ben Affleck, who will direct the movie as well as star in it, has been working hard on the script with Geoff Johns, all while filming his role in Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE; in fact, just days after wrapping up JUSTICE LEAGUE's lengthy London shoot, he'll be heading to Iceland for a few more days of filming. This is going to be one huge movie.

JUSTICE LEAGUE is set for a November 17, 2017 release.
