Ben Affleck speaks on the possibility of directing Batman’s solo film

In just a little under two months we’ll find ourselves presented with a brand-new Batman in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE played by none other than Ben Affleck. Unlike other actors who have taken on the mantle of the Dark Knight, Ben Affleck may be poised to take on a much more involved role in guiding Batman's journey in the DC Cinematic Universe. Last summer many trades reported that Affleck would be directing himself in Batman’s first solo film in the DCCU, which was said to be simply titled THE BATMAN.

While that news hasn’t been officially confirmed by Ben Affleck or the Warner Bros. camp, the actor did speak with USA Today recently and say how inspired he was by watching Zack Snyder do his thing during the production of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.

I’ll just say going through the process, I would never have imagined that I could or would direct a movie like this. And in working with (Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder) and seeing what he did and watching him every day, I got really inspired by that and by seeing the scope on which he was telling the story, by seeing what he was able to do with this kind of mythic story on a grand scale.

Around ten years ago I would have said that you'd be crazy to hand the reins to a character like Batman over to Ben Affleck, but with films like GONE BABY GONE, THE TOWN, and ARGO, Affleck has proven that he's a force to be reckoned with both in front and behind the camera. Should THE BATMAN find Affleck at its helm, I have no doubt that he'd deliver a solid picture. Ben Affleck is currently directing LIVE BY NIGHT, an adaption of the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name and follows Joe Coughlin (Ben Affleck), the youngest son of a prominent Boston police captain who defies his proper upbringing by climbing the ladder of organized crime and encountering a number of dangerous individuals who are all fighting for their piece of the American dream.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
