Bella Thorne vs. the apocalypse in Mitzi Peirone’s The Uncanny

Bella Thorne continues to rack up a steady stream of horror and thriller credits (check out the Bella Thorne tag to see just how many of these projects she has been working on), now signing up to star in director Mitzi Peirone's post-apocalyptic thriller THE UNCANNY.

Scripted by Peirone and Chaya Doswell, THE UNCANNY will be giving viewers a look at

a future where every citizen is implanted with a chip capable of controlling everything from emotions to directions, until a routine update backfires, causing a cyber apocalypse. Wiping out most of humanity, five strangers miraculously survive, now forced to live hidden in a bunker with their implants ripped from their spines. They were the few lucky enough to survive – until Scarlet begins to suspect they were not saved at all, or by chance.

Thorne will be playing the character Scarlet.

THE UNCANNY is being produced by Rebecca Berrih, Thor Bradwell, and Courtney Shepard. Shepard, the Director of Development at New Republic Pictures, had this to say about the project:

The story offers a timely and compelling glimpse into human’s dependence on technology and the greater evils of such addiction. We’re excited to have Bella on board for such a strong female-led team. I have no doubt Mitzi will craft something visually and thematically stunning."

Peirone has previously said that she was working on something set in "a dystopian desert" that was "apocalyptic, action-driven, intense. Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World meets MAD MAX." It sounds like THE UNCANNY may have been the story she was talking about.

We'll keep you updated on this one as it moves forward.
