There are seven kingdoms under the sea in the world of Aquaman, and not all of them are filled with inhabitants that look like Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson. No, there are many who indeed look like they belong underwater, especially the Fisherman King, who we get our first look at in this new image from the upcoming AQUAMAN.

EW debuted the image of the character (played by Djimon Hounsou, who is also in DC’s SHAZAM!) near his royal palace. Also in the pic are Fisherman Queen (Natalia Safran) and Princess (Sophia Forrest), with a member of the royal guard floating nearby, showing they don’t have legs, but rather mermaid-esque tails.
The image comes from a scene where King Orm (Wilson) is asking the Fisherman King for help waging war against the surface dwellers (us) who pollute the water with oil, garbage and victims of mafia hits. Producer Peter Safran spoke about this race, saying, “After the fall of Atlantis, some of the kingdoms evolved and some devolved. This is one that evolved. This is a kingdom that’s primarily artistic and cerebral, with poets and philosophers.”

The special effects in this movie are already looking incredible with an immense amount of detail paid to create this new, underwater world. We will get a better look at everything when the first trailer for the movie arrives at Comic-Con next week, so stay tuned for our coverage then!
AQUAMAN hits theaters December 21.
