A new behind-the-scenes photo from the production of New Line and DC's SHAZAM! is making the rounds today, which evidently gives us our first look at Zachary Levi in full costume as the film's boy-turned-adult superhero. Additionally, if you look closely, you can also see KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE actor Mark Strong, who plays the villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana in the movie, standing off to the side.
The photo appeared on Reddit this afternoon, and shows an actor who looks a heck of a lot like Zachary Levi ready and willing to perform some derring-do. With his slicked-back mop, tiered, cream-colored cape, and golden accessories atop a skin-tight red bodysuit, the character is looking close to page-perfect as he attempts to save Christmas … or whatever's happening here.
You can check out the photo for yourself below:
SHAZAM! will tell the story of an orphan child named Billy Batson, who after coming into contact with a mysterious and powerful wizard, is granted the ability to transform into an adult superhero with godlike powers.
Here is the film's official synopsis:
“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”
What do you think of Levi's look for SHAZAM!? I know it's a shame that he has his back turned away from the camera in the pic, but at least we're able to catch a glimpse of his ornate cape – not to mention all the work Levi's been putting in at the gym while training for DC's comic book adventure film. With any luck, we'll have an official photo real soon.
SHAZAM! is scheduled for an April 5, 2019 release.
