Behind-the-scenes images reveal the title and logo of the new Scream film

The new installment in the SCREAM franchise is now filming in Wilmington, North Carolina, and a batch of behind-the-scenes images appear to have revealed that the film is going by the title SCREAM. Not SCREAM 5, just SCREAM. This despite the fact that the project is a sequel that brings franchise stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox back as Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley, and Gale Weathers, respectively. Marley Shelton is also on board to reprise her SCREAM 4 role of Deputy Judy Hicks.

The crew member who shared the picture of the title/logo then deleted their Instagram account, so it's safe to say this is legit.

Also revealed in the behind-the-scenes images is that one of the locations in the film is referred to as the "Carpenter House". Plus cast member Mason Gooding posted a short video of an interaction he had with co-star Dylan Minnette.

Fans are pointing out that SCREAM, which was strongly influenced by HALLOWEEN from the beginning, is now continuing to follow in the footsteps of the HALLOWEEN franchise by having a sequel that has the exact same title as the original film, with no numbers or subtitle. The 2018 HALLOWEEN sequel was simply called HALLOWEEN, and apparently the 2022 SCREAM sequel will simply be called SCREAM.

This is the first SCREAM film to be made by Spyglass and Paramount, the previous four were Miramax/Dimension productions, so that's probably the biggest reason why they're just going with the original title.

READY OR NOT directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (you can watch READY OR NOT at THIS LINK) are at the helm of this film, working from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

In addition to the actors mentioned above, the cast also includes Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kyle Gallner, and Sonia Ammar.

Project X Entertainment's Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak are producing the film, with Chad Villella serving as executive producer alongside Kevin Williamson.

The new SCREAM is aiming for a January 14, 2022 release.
