Holy cow, this little puppy has practically took off since its premiere! What the hell is this all about? I’ll tell you what it’s about. It’s about a good flick getting good reception. This is just another case of the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY syndrome. You take a indie flick and turn it into a smash hit and the next thing you know…
It’s getting a prequel.
Woah, say what? This is real stuff folks. The hype behind THE LOVED ONES is almighty and it’s only getting bigger with every screening. It wouldn’t be a surprise to figure out that a film with remarkable huge success would eventually land itself a sequel or two. But in this case, THE LOVED ONES is a tad different.
What’s Playing has just went through a recent interview with Sean Byrne, the director of THE LOVED ONES, and found out a few sweet tidbits involving what is a intracate back story and news on US distribution! Here’s a snippet from the interview:
“[the next film] lends itself more to a prequel. I’ve actually got 12 pages of back-story so… watch this space.”
And what of the US theatrical release? It seems they are still debating on if it will “get a wide release or a small boutique release. As you know, it’s got commercial qualities, but it’s also a very subversive take on the genre… but it will be coming out in theaters one way or the other.”
What’s the verdict on your end folks? Yay or Nay on the prequel? At least we’ll get something out of it…whether it be another flick or a theatrical release date. Who knows. Strike down below and lend us your thoughts.
“Directed by Sean Byrne and starring a hot, young, talented cast including Xavier Samuel (ECLIPSE) Robin McLeavy (STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE WITH CATE BLANCHETT), Jessica McNamee (PACKED TO THE RAFTERS), Victoria Thaine (CATERPILLAR WISH) and Richard Wilson (CLUBLAND) with John Brumpton (LAST RIDE) playing ‘Daddy’, it’s a vivid, sexy rollercoaster of a ride that takes the conventions of horror and runs them off the rails.
Brent (Samuel) never recovered from the car crash that killed his father: the crash that he was responsible for. His only solace is his loving girlfriend, Holly (Thaine). But there’s another girl who yearns to comfort Brent, the quietest girl in school, Lola (McLeavy), and when he turns down her invitation to the end of year dance, he enters a nightmare beyond imagining.
A terrifying series of events takes place under the light of a mirrored disco ball, involving pink satin, glitter, syringes, nails and power drills. Brent must summon every ounce of will he possesses if he is to survive and prevent Lola and her father from extending their revenge to those he loves the most.”
