It seems it has been a long time since we last reported on the planned BEETLEJUICE sequel that was all the rage in horror news a few years back. In fact, the last word we heard on the film was way back in 2015 when Winona Ryder all but confirmed the film was happening. But then the project died off.
Until today that is. Today, Deadline is reporting that BEETLEJUICE 2 is back in active development and has just snagged a new writer to pen the screenplay, Mike Vukadinovich.
Vukadinovich may not be a name you're familiar with but he wrote REMEMORY with Peter Dinklage and MR. TOAD'S WILD RIDE for Disney. I don't know about REMEMORY, but something about the writer of a flick based on the zany Disney ride Mr. Toad's Wild Ride seems right for BEETLEJUICE.
While nothing has been confirmed, Deadline also reports that Tim Burton and Michael Keaton are excited to return to the world of the ghost with the most, so hopefully, we hear more about that soon.
BEETLEJUICE synopsis:
After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose "help" quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.
