We’ve known for a while that there has been interest in exploring a sequel to SINISTER but there hasn’t been any official word, until now. Deadline is reporting that Blumhouse Productions is officially moving forward with the sequel to Scott Derrickson’s box-office hit SINISTER.
While everything is still in the early stages it is said that Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will return to co-write the story. No word on whether or not Derrickson will return to direct but right now it looks like he’s going to at least stick around as producer.
SINISTER was made on a $3 million budget and has since earned over $77 million at the box office so this shouldn’t come to anyone’s surprise that they decided to move forward with a sequel.
Not sure how I feel about this. The original film was legitimately creepy and offered some refreshing scares so I have a hard time seeing the sequel being able to repeat that – as many never come close. I’d much rather see Derrickson and Cargill put their heads together for another original idea, but who knows, maybe this sequel will break the mold and offer a rare second installment that can be just as good as the original.
Cross your fingers!
