Beast box office totals find the action film sharpening its claws with $925,000 in Thursday previews

As the last gasps of summer eek their way out of the season, theaters are finding it challenging to put asses in seats. Case in point, Universal‘s Beast sank its teeth into $925,000 in Thursday previews across 2,900 cinemas. While it’s not an abysmal total, theater owners are likely losing their hair in clumps as their movie houses continue to recover from the pandemic. Thankfully, Beast will expand to 3,743 cinemas on Friday, giving more people a chance to sharpen their claws on Idris Elba’s latest action setpiece. In other words, things could get better for the Beast box office totals soon.

Analysts predict Beast could earn $10 million over the weekend. However, the Baltasar Kormákur-directed thrill ride cost $36 million to produce and pimp out to would-be audiences. Thankfully, Beast is fairing better overseas and has picked up $4.9 million in tickets sold so far. Surprisingly, Beast could be defeated by Goku at the box office this weekend. You heard me. Goku of Dragon Ball Z fame. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is going Super Saiyan at the box office by targeting a $13-$15 million weekend debut. Distributed by Crunchyroll, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is sure to draw otakus from across the globe for big-screen fun with their favorite Dragon Ball characters.

In Beast, a father (Idris Elba) and his two daughters find themselves hunted by a massive rogue lion intent on proving that the Savanna has but one apex predator. Beast is receiving positive reviews from critics, with many praising the film’s swift pace, pulse-pounding action, and unique approach to the predator versus prey motif. Hopefully, audiences will go on safari with Elba and the gang rather than wait in line at the local water park. You know people pee in the wave pool, right? Like, a lot of people. It’s more or less a crock pot of urine with flotation devices.

Fun fact: the stronger the chlorine smell at a pool usually means the more pee there is! It’s a great little reaction converting the chlorine to chloramine, with the ammonia in the urine! Yum!

Will you be checking out Beast in theaters this weekend? If not, what are your plans? Let us know in the comments.
