Rejoice Sherlock fans! Deadline is reporting that Sherlock had its first season three read-through yesterday and that filming on the hit BBC show will start Monday. It was a little iffy for a while when production was going to start since stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have been busy working on a couple of films you may have heard of (do I really need to list THE HOBBIT, STAR TREK, or THE WORLD’S END? I didn’t think so) but filming is definitely set to start. Two of the episodes will be filmed before summer and the third episode in the season will shoot sometime afterwards.
However, one person will not be back for the third season. Director Paul McGuigan announced this through his Twitter over the weekend:
#sherlock has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my working life as a director but now I have a movie to make…so stay tuned x
— Paul McGuigan (@paul_mcguigan) March 9, 2013
McGuigan is currently set to direct the revamped FRANKENSTEIN film that may star Daniel Radcliffe and is also working on THE MAN WHO with Cumberbatch about Beatle’s manager Brian Epstein. Deadline has learned that Jeremey Lovering (IN FEAR) and Colm McCarthy (DR. WHO, RIPPER STREET) will be directing two of the new episodes of Sherlock, but there isn’t any news about a third director yet.
I’m a huge fan of Sherlock and anything BBC. If you haven’t watched it you are missing out on one of the best shows on television. And with how the last season ended I know I’m not the only one that wants to know what’s going to happen next at 221B Baker Street.
