Elvis biopic first look shows Austin Butler as Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s film

Fresh off the news that Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley film would be going through a slight release delay, the director has unveiled the first look at the film’s star, Austin Butler, as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Luhrmann took to Twitter to post some context-free footage of Butler in full Elvis mode. You don’t get a full picture of what he can do but he definitely seems to have the walk and swagger of Elvis Presley down and given the fact that he does resemble the late musician, he may prove to be a revelation in the role. The caption reads, “Made a little something to let you good people know we are taking care of business on June 24, 2022.” The date refers to the film’s new release date when we will finally get to see Austin Butler fully embody the iconic musician. You can check out the Twitter post below!

Per the film’s official synopsis, “Set against an evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America, the untitled drama covers the rock legend’s growth from dirt-poor singer to global icon, seen through the prism of his complex relationship over two decades with manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks).”

This is Austin Butler’s most high-profile role to date. He starred on MTV’s The Shannara Chronicles before landing the role of Elvis in July of 2019. He has since appeared in The Dead Don’t Die and played Manson Family member Tex Watson in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He’s currently filming a lead role in the Apple TV+ miniseries Masters of the Air, executive produced by his Elvis co-star, Tom Hanks.

This first look may be short, but what are YOUR thoughts on the first look of Austin Butler as Elvis Presley?
