Barbie: Margot Robbie felt mortified amongst the hundreds of onlookers watching her film beach scenes

As the movie world curiously waits to see what’s in store for the upcoming Barbie movie from Academy Award-nominated director Greta Gerwig, viewers were given a glimpse of the movie thanks to paparazzi photos of star Margot Robbie and her Ken, played by Ryan Gosling, filming scenes on location at Venice Beach. The pictures quickly went viral. In effect, they already became a meme as the characters are seen rollerblading, donning pink 90s spandex, and beach wear from the popular toy line.

IndieWire reports on Margot Robbie’s recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where she is promoting the release of Amsterdam, that the blonde star had become mortified during filming on location for Barbie when the number of spectators had ballooned into hundreds of people. In the interview, Robbie explains,

I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way. We look like we’re like laughing and having fun but dying on the inside. Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life. I mean, I knew that we had some exteriors to shoot in L.A. I knew, OK, once you were doing exteriors, you’re gonna get papped. There’s probably going to be a little crowd of people who are going to stand out because, you know, we stand out a little bit in those outfits. So I knew there was going to be a little bit of attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did. It was like mad. It was like hundreds of people watching.”

Gosling jokes about his role as Ken, saying it was harder than his role in Netflix’s The Gray Man. “That Ken life is even harder than the ‘Gray Man’ life, I think,” Gosling says. “Ken’s got no money. He’s got no job, he’s got no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff.”

Barbie had wrapped production this past July and is eyeing a release next year on July 2023.
