Barbie Ferreira leaving HBO’s Euphoria after two seasons

Actress Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez on HBO’s teen drama sensation Euphoria, announced she will be leaving the show after two seasons.

Ferreira posted on Instagram: “after four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye…I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did…and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”

Barbie Ferreira’s Hernandez became a fan favorite–and important–character on Euphoria, embracing her body and image through confidence (and becoming a dominatrix).

Last season, Ferreira and creator Sam Levinson reportedly clashed over the direction of her character, with the actress at one point leaving the set. Loyal fans will note that Ferreira’s screen time was undoubtedly limited that season compared to the first, with some episodes hardly featuring her character. Ferreira also apparently did not attend the premiere. HBO simply stated, “It’s not uncommon for drama series to have complex shoots”. It is unclear if any on-set incidents directly resulted in Ferreira leaving Euphoria.

HBO reported earlier this year that Euphoria is their second most-watched show after Game of Thrones. Euphoria has three Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.

While Euphoria has been renewed for season three, no details have emerged on plot or character developments.

Ferreira recently appeared in Jordan Peele’s latest horror outing, Nope, which is available this Friday on VOD. Her first major role was in the wonderful Unpregnant.

What are your feelings on Barbie Ferreira leaving Euphoria? Will you continue to watch despite the loss of Kat Hernandez?
